General Considerations Tinctures are taken sublingually, and as a consequence, the onset of effects happens more quickly — typically within minutes of ingestion.
Despite this fact, individuals vary and full effects may be felt anywhere from 10 to 60 minutes depending on user tolerance, strain potency, and whether or not taken on an empty or full stomach. Relief typically lasts between 2 and 4 hours.
In addition to more rapid onset of effects, tinctures have another benefit in that they can be simpler to dose in small amounts. For example, a user may only consume a only a portion of a dropper, and then periodically take additional doses over time to sustain their relief. Because tincture dosing provides such fine grain control, they are also easier for inexperienced users.
Specific Recommendations for Tinctures Take tinctures sublingually for best results. Patients may consume tinctures in beverages, but the effect will be felt later and for slightly longer duration.
Each fluid ounce of tincture is infused with 400mg each of activated THC, together with other trace cannabinoids, providing a true entourage effect.
A one ounce bottle is ~720 drops and about 75 doses (at ~10 drops/dose). A 1/2 ounce bottles has ~360 drops and ~32 doses.
A typical dosage is 15mg, or about ten (10) drops. There are approximately 25 drops in a typical dropper, so a typical dose is about 1/2 dropper.
Users with limited or no edible experience should begin with a few (3-5) drops [Remember: 1 drop=1.5mg]. Wait 30 minutes. If effects are inadequate, take another 5 drops and wait an additional 30 minutes.
Experienced users, or those that medicate regularly may consume between 1/2 and two full droppers (~15mg-70mg), and then wait 30 minutes. If the dose is inadequate, ingest an 1/2 to 1 dropper full.
How Much is Too Much? It is definitely possible to ingest more marijuana than you need or want. It can take an hour or more for the medicine to take full effect, therefore it is common to increase your dosage prematurely.
When this happens you may have feelings of uneasiness, anxiety, or even paranoia. You might also feel dizzy, groggy, nauseous, or get chills. Your coordination might be affected and you may have trouble speaking clearly. Some people experience heart rate acceleration, which can further increase the anxiety.
DO NOT PANIC! It is impossible to ingest a toxic dose of marijuana. Nobody has ever died from ingesting too much cannabis. It does not slow your respiratory system or cause organ failure, even in extreme doses.
The best remedy for ingesting too much cannabis is to sleep it off. The peak of the effects should take place about an hour after you begin to notice them and begin to dissipate after that. It has been found that the fat in milk can help move cannabinoids; (Including THC) more quickly through the body, ameliorating the effects of the over dosage.
